Rheanna and Jeff’s Beautiful Wedding at Schnepf Farms with SJA Studios

It is such an honor to be able to photograph someones wedding.  The whole process of meeting the client, getting to know them, and the being able to be a part of such a special day is really something special.

When I first met Rheanna and Jeff, I knew I wanted to get to know them and I was so lucky that they chose me to capture their day.  Such an awesome couple!  I can truly say I have made good friends.

Their wedding day was at Schnepf Farms in Queen Creek, Arizona.  I had never had the chance to shoot there before so I was very much looking forward to it. The location is so beautiful with so many great locations for photos.  From the rows in the orchards, to the old wells and farm buildings, it was just perfect! Here are a few images from their magical day:

The beautiful bride, Rheanna…..

and the dashing groom, Jeff.

What a beautiful wedding!  Thanks so much to April at Schnepf Farms for being so great to work with!  A big thanks goes to Rheanna and Jeff for making my job so much fun!  From the first meeting, to the super fun engagement session, to the wonderful wedding day, they were the best!  I wish them both all the happiness in the world!

Capturing the fun and romance in your engagement session with SJA Studios

image

There are so many different ways to approach how how we as photographers work with our clients.  Just one look on Youtube and you can find hundreds of videos on posing, lighting, and capturing the perfect shot.  When it’s all said and done, it is really about letting the people you are photographing be themselves.

This is especially true with engagement sessions.  You want to capture who the couple is on a more personal level.  Are they silly when they are together? Maybe they are romantics or a little bit shy.  Do they laugh out loud at their inside jokes?  Or, maybe it is the quiet moments that mean so much to them.

image

What is most important is that you capture how they feel about each other at this really special time in their lives.  They are going to be married soon.  They are so excited to be planning their big day!

I try to help my clients to relax and be themselves.  We find a beautiful spot with beautiful light and let them just be.  I might make a few suggestions and help out a little.  But I really want to capture them in a natural way.  I know not all photographers would agree with me.  Some swear by posing the couples just how they want them.  I personally find that my clients are a lot more relaxed if I don’t try and push them into a certain pose that may be awkward for them.  Yes, it might look great, but if they feel uncomfortable, then they will look uncomfortable in their pictures.

This session with Chelsea and David was really fun!  We shot it at The Pioneer Historical Village just north of Phoenix.  I think you can tell from the pictures that they were super relaxed and just having fun at their session.  It made for some wonderful moments!  So, when it’s time for your engagement session, just remember, relax, have fun, and be yourselves.  Those moments are truly the ones you want to remember!

Kara and Jeremy’s Beautiful Rainy Day Wedding at Tempe Mission Palms with SJA Studios

You never know what the weather is going to be like when you plan your wedding day.  You hope and pray for good weather but there is no way to guarantee it!  I always tell the couples I work with to not worry about it.  If the weather goes south, just make sure you have some umbrellas and cute rain boots for the ladies!

Well, the weather did decide to take a bit of a turn last week for Kara and Jeremy’s big day.  No big deal, though!  They were fine with it!  We started at The Redemption Church in Gilbert and went to The Tempe Mission Palms for the reception.  We did have a little bit of a break in the rain so we headed over to the Old Tempe Flour Mill and got it a few shots there as well.  Here are a few highlights from their beautiful day!

The beautiful bride!

Kara’s beautiful dress.

The guys looking good!

The ladies having some laughs!

The big kiss!

A break in the rain!  Time for a portrait!

Yummy!  Need I say more?

And, of course, the first dance!

Even though the rain poured down, Kara and Jeremy’s wedding day was just perfect!  Thanks so much to the both of them for having me be a part of it!  Thanks as well to Jessica at Redemption Church and Rachelle at The Mission Palms for helping to make the day so great!

Here’s wishing Kara and Jeremy all the happiness in the world!

What’s important on your wedding day? SJA Studios - Arizona Wedding Photographer

There is so much to do when getting ready for your wedding day.  In all the hustle and bustle, have you thought about what is most important to you on your big day?  Is seeing friends and family one of the most important things?  Maybe it’s having the perfect venue.  Maybe the first dance is most important to you.  It could be that first kiss after you say “I Do”.  It could be the photography or the dress.  The point is, everyone is different as to what’s most important.  You need to decide what it is for you.

To do that, I recommend making a list of 3 things that that are most important to you on your wedding day.  There are lots of traditions when it comes to weddings.  Everything from cutting the cake to tossing the bouquet or garter.  It doesn’t mean you have to do all of them the way everybody else does.  By picking out what is most important to you, you can focus your time and budget on those things.  That way your day is more meaningful and personal.  Focus on the stuff you are most excited about first and you are guaranteed to have a fabulous wedding day!

Here’s to having the wedding you’ve always dreamed of!

The benefits of a “First Look” at your wedding! SJA Studios

While I know this is always a personal choice for a bride, I thought it would be helpful to explain some of the benefits of having a “First Look” at your wedding. If you are not familiar with the First Look, it is an opportunity before the wedding ceremony for the bride and groom to see each other for the first time while photos are being taken.  While it is traditional to see each other for the first time at the ceremony, there are a few reasons why you should consider having a First Look.

The first reason is that once the ceremony starts, there will be no alone time for the two of you.  Wedding are a very exciting day and once you are married, everyone wants to chat with you, congratulate you, and be around you.  You are, of course, the main attraction at your own wedding!  A First Look gives you those few precious minutes together before all the craziness starts.  It is a wonderful time to be with the one you are marrying and look into each other’s eye, say something sweet, or just have a quiet moment together.  Those pictures of you in those moments can be some of the most emotional ones of the day.

Next, if you do a First Look and your bridal portraits before the ceremony, you can attend the cocktail party after the ceremony and join in on the fun.  Instead of being out taking portraits, you can mingle with all of your family and friends that are so happy to be there to celebrate with you.

In addition, it improves the flow of your wedding day.  There is not the same amount of pressure to run from spot to spot to get your portraits in the small amount of time you have during the cocktail hour.  Things just run smoother. And, it will in no way take away from the moment you two see each other at the ends of that aisle.  That is a very emotional moment whether you have a First Look or not.

Ultimately, it is up to you.  There are benefits to having a First Look and it will help your day run smoother.  If you can break away from tradition just a tad, you may be very happy with the results!
